His Juris Doctor degree at University of Calgary was supported by a Burnet Scholarship. His Ph.D. in law at the University of British Columbia and post-doctorate at the University of Washington were supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council fellowships. He is an original Paetzold Fellow at U.B.C. He is recognized across Canada and around the world as highly knowledgeable in extradition matters and has published several books and presented many academic papers on the subject. Among his published titles are Extradition between Canada and the United States, Canadian Extradition Law Practice, Fundamental Freedoms and Jehovah's Witnesses, Chief Smallboy: In Pursuit of Freedom, and Wrongful Conviction in Canadian Law. He is listed in the Stanford Who's Who?
